#ThoroughCareMonth: Jolly & Toeroek couldn’t part with Kemalpasa

Trainer Chantelle Jolly, and her partner jockey Jake Toeroek, both shared milestone wins with popular South Australian sprinter Kemalpasa, and couldn’t bear to part with him when he retired.

The multiple Stakes winner, who collected close to $1.2 million in prizemoney, is loving his new life at Chris and Owen Ridge’s property at Mount Compass.

“He had given us so many thrills and all we wanted was to see him retire sound and happy so I’m glad we’ve got him now,” said Chantelle.

“He was such a great horse for us, he was so honest and tried his guts out so we were pretty keen to put our hand up and give him a home. He is just a cool character. We love him and hopefully we can enjoy him riding here and he’ll live a nice life.

“His best career highlight was winning the Group 2 on Derby Day at Flemington (2019). It was my first Group 2 winner as a trainer and Jake’s as a jockey so it was a massive thrill for us and our stables as well.

“He’s got his own paddock to himself. We’ve got an arena and a sand yard we can use whenever we want and he’s living his best life,” she said.
