SABOIS
- South Australian Owners & Breeders Incentive Scheme.
SABOIS is the South Australian Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme. It helps maximise interest in qualified horses and provides financial rewards to breeders or nominators, owners, trainers and jockeys over and above standard prizemoney.
From 1st February 2010, the scheme will be known as the South Australian Breeders and Owners Incentive Scheme (SABOIS) to reflect the importance of racehorse owners in the industry and will offer bonuses over three levels of racing, including:
- Metro Saturday and Public Holiday meetings (which will carry $20,000 bonuses);
- Metro mid-week, Provincial and Country TAB meetings ($8,000); and
- Non-TAB meetings ($3,000).
Thoroughbred Racing has also created SABOIS-PLUS which will carry a $10,000 bonus for selected races run over distances of 1800m or further. Any horse registered for the scheme as a yearling will be eligible to compete, regardless of age.
Additionally, for those foals born on or after 2005, SABOIS has been broadened to include four-year-olds which are eligible to compete for bonuses in all SABOIS-programmed Maiden races.
In total, $7.5 million will be available through the scheme compared with $5 million offered in the current SABIS fund.
“The incentive scheme has always been designed to encourage greater levels of racehorse ownership and breeding in South Australia,” said Jim Watters, Chief Executive of Thoroughbred Racing.
“Now, as part of Thoroughbred Racing’s continued commitment to grow the South Australian racing industry, we are taking that encouragement to the next level with SABOIS which offers greater bonuses across more events for more horses.”
The 1st February 2010 start date for SABOIS coincides with major prizemoney increases across all levels of racing, which were recently announced by Thoroughbred Racing.
