Back To TopHistory - Strathalbyn Racing Club

The Strathalbyn Racing Club was formed in 1922 by a group of south-coast racing enthusiasts. The popularity of the Club quickly attracted the attention of the Adelaide racing public who rapidly became regular patrons of the Club. As the Club generated profit this was invested back into the facilities, creating what is now accepted as an exceptional surface and modern facilities.

The Club races approximately 12 times per year with the feature meetings being held in November, January, March and April.

The bookmakers betting ring and totalisator face each other and are serviced by a computerised bookmaker's fluctuation system and are adjacent to the grandstands, bars, public conveniences and dining rooms. In addition, the top deck of the grandstand complex is available for public viewing and the Club has a modern horse stall and veterinary complex.

Patrons enjoy the panoramic view from the facilities provided, which together with the expanse of lawned area and the location of the facilities makes movement from one area to the other very convenient. Strathalbyn is recognised as having a very friendly and hospitable environment and atmosphere for a wide range of patrons, especially families.

Local community organisations use the facilities for a variety of purposes. Very seldom is a charge levied for this use as the Club prefers to assist the local community wherever possible.

The facilities and the manicured gardens make this the perfect place for weddings, birthday parties, product lauches and conferences for which a nominal charge is made.
