Bordertown

The Region

Bordertown has a population of approximately 2700 residents and is the gateway to the State's eastern border. Situated on the Dukes Highway, Bordertown is 265km from Adelaide, 450km from Melbourne and 15kms west of the Victorian border.

This area is one of the most fertile farming areas in this State. It is known as the "Tatiara" which is aboriginal for "The Good Country". It was first settled after it became a stopping point for the Gold that was being mined at Ballarat being on route, overland to Adelaide. The first recorded Race Meeting was held on 26th December 1861. The present Racecourse site has been racing's home in the Tatiara since 1939. The club looks after and maintains the 70 acres of Parklands.

Regional Attractions

Bordertown is the home of the white Kangaroo, which can be seen in the Wildlife park directly opposite the Racecourse. Padthaway area is 45kms away and many local wineries are alsoestablished in Bordertown. Activities include visiting the recreation lake, Poocher Swamp, Mount Monster, Christmas Rocks and Kongal Rocks, There are also Golf, Swimming and tennis facilities.

General Admission

Adult $10, Concession $8, Under 16 Free

Trainers

Locally 3 Trainers (J Searle, J Beattie & S Walsh) have stabling on site. S Turner and S Hayes use the track as required. Daryl Dodson trains out of his property at Telopea Downs (40Kms away) and educates all of his horses at the course. The Keith Trainers (H Lehmann & A Hunt) use the Bordertown facility for education and some fast work. Some mornings 20 horses are on course.
