Magna Bella amongst SA runners on Cox Plate Day

South Australia has a quartet of runners joining Dalasan in stepping out for Cox Plate Day on Saturday at Moonee Valley.

Local mares Magna Bella and Ecumenical will both be out to put some added value on the pedigree page when they line-up in the $200,000 Group 2 Tesio Stakes.

Andrew Clarken’s Magna Bella finished second in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes last time out while Mick Huxtable’s Ecumenical will appreciate a big drop in weight coming out of the Group 3 Vase at Caulfield behind Sirileo Miss.

Both will jump from mid-field, with Magna Bella ridden by Linda Meech from barrier 9 and Ecumenical partnering with Billy Egan from 7.

Meanwhile, Wylie Stakes winner Free Of Debt and impressive last-start Morphettville winner Dexelation both face outside barriers early in the day in a 1000m handicap.

Co-trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly toyed with the idea of running Dexelation in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes on Friday night after his impressive return to racing where he ran down smart stablemate All Banter, but preferred his chances in Saturday’s $130,000 race where he will be ridden by Jye McNeil.

After finishing 3.8 lengths away in fourth spot in last week’s Group 2 Caulfield Sprint behind Oxley Road, the Chris Beig-trained Free Of Debt will partner with in-form jockey Brett Prebble for his second career run at the Valley.
