Enchantingly chasing black type success

Scott Westover will saddle-up his first Melbourne runner when in-form mare Enchantingly chases a third win in succession in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

The former Sydney mare has come back from a short break in career best form winning first-up at Morphettville by 1.9 lengths before blowing rivals away to score by 7.5 lengths last time out.

“I think she’s improved since last start,’’ Westover said.

“It’s obviously a big step up in class, but black type is such a valuable thing for a mare nowadays and hopefully she can carry her Adelaide form to Melbourne,’’ he said.

Enchantingly will be joined in the feature by Smokin’ Val who was beaten first-up from a spell at Morphettville.

The Jon O’Connor-trained mare endured a luckless Adelaide Racing Carnival where she beaten a combined margin over 5.8 lengths in the Redelva, Tobin Bronze and Proud Miss Stakes.

Another promising SA galloper also heads to Melbourne on the back of an impressive Morphettville win.

Mick Huxtable’s four-year-old Ecumenical won smartly first-up from a break and teams up with Will Price from a tricky barrier, while Will Clarken has to decide between the Listed Wylie Stakes at Morphettville and another Melbourne mission for impressive last-start Caulfield winner He’s A Balter.
