Sangster shaping as race of the carnival

The $502,250 Group 1 TAB Classic (Sangster Stakes) (1200m) is shaping as the race of the 2021 Adelaide Racing Carnival.

Four horses currently share favouritism at $8 with tab.com.au – Instant Celebrity, Libertini, Savatiano and Swats That – for the 1200m feature at Morphettville on Saturday week, with nominations closing at 12 noon on Tuesday.

Savatiano is a last-start winner of the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick in Sydney, but is still to be officially nominated by Godolphin’s James Cummings.

The stable currently has four horses among early nominations:

- Athiri, runner-up behind Krone in the Magic Millions Sprint on the Gold Coast in January.

- Emanate, third in the Group 3 Wenonagirl at Randwick two starts back.

- Exhilarates, who finished sixth in Saturday’s Irwin Stakes behind Kemalpasa.

- Flit who hasn’t raced since her eye-catching effort behind Masked Crusader in the Group 1 William Reid at Moonee Valley on March 19.

Godolphin could also be represented by Lyre from the Anthony and Sam Freedman yard.

The Freedman stable is also hoping to have La Mexicana, an impressive Caulfield winner on the weekend, and Prophet’s Thumb in Adelaide.

Anthony Cummings’ Libertini finished third in the William Reid before chasing home Nature Strip in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick last time out.

Cummings also has Mizzy, who ran second behind Krone in the Coolmore, nominated.

Champion trainer Chris Waller has entered Subpoenaed, who won the Group 2 Millie Fox at Rosehill before running seventh behind Krone in the Group 1 Coolmore last time out.

Brooklyn Hustle is set to make the trip for Jason Warren and Dean Krongold following three luckless runs this campaign, with Mark Zahra booked to ride.

Leon and Troy Corstens have Swats That heading to Adelaide having finished runner-up behind September Run in the Coolmore Stud Stakes back in the spring and being placed first-up behind Nature Strip in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes.

Philip Stokes’ Instant Celebrity headlines local nominations which include Be My Star, last-start Melbourne winner Li’l Kontra and Manihi winner Mileva.
