Stokes’ double-take on Morphettville runners

Tommy Stokes admitted he had to do a double take when acceptances for Morphettville were released on Wednesday.

The Stokes stable has four runners: three drew the inside in gate one, while Bottom Line landed barrier 20 and will jump from the extreme outside in a field of 18 after scratchings.

“I had to look twice,” Stokes said.

“Three drawing barrier one is pretty amazing.”

Talented filly Highly Discreet carries solid expectations within the stable and Stokes said the race presented the opportunity for her to race closer to the speed and put her hand up for some upcoming races during the 2021 Adelaide Racing Carnival.

“It’s turned out a really good race,” Stokes said.

“She generally gets back and runs on but we’ve been trying to teach her begin a bit shaper and race handy.

“We jumped her out at Gawler the other day, she led and won the jump-out quite nicely, so we’ll try and settle a bit closer.”

Despite the outside alley, Stokes said Bottom Line was the one horse he was happy to see drawn off the track.

“If any horse was going to draw wide I was happy it was him,” Stokes said.

“He’lI get back with cover. I think he just needs to settle a pair further back than he did last start.

“We were niggling at him the whole race and he lost his finish. If we let him travel comfortably in the run I think he’ll show a really good turn of foot.”

Lady Dunmore is back in Adelaide while Brazen Brando is first-up from spell and has the benefit of two recent jump-outs under his belt.

“She (Lady Dunmore) is only limited but she’s racing in consistent order and should run well,” Stokes said.

“Brazen Brando should be right there from barrier one and I’m really happy with him.”
