Victorian visitor scorches turf in Magic Millions Classic

Victorian visitor Scorched Earth has won the $202,250 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in emphatic style, powering away to win by a space at Murray Bridge today.

The John Moloney-trained filly finished second in a Blue Diamond Prelude before crossing the border for today’s race, which was the feature of the inaugural Magic Millions raceday at Murray Bridge.

Scorched Earth ($2.90) travelled sweetly on the pace, then booted away in the straight to give apprentice jockey Jessica Eaton her richest career winner, beating placegetters Lady of Honour and Princess Raffles by over five lengths. Eaton, SA’s leading jockey this season, gave a fist pump as she crossed the line.

Fellow Victorian visitor Metzarro was well-backed before the race, but missed the start and never raised backers’ hopes.

Scorched Earth is a daughter of Nicconi and Moloney expected a bold showing today.

“She ran good in both the clockwise race at Ballarat and then the Prelude,” Moloney said.

“She jumped and led last time…”

Scorched Earth was Moloney’s first runner at the Gifford Hill facility.
