Kah speeding up riding ranks

Star South Australian jockey Jamie Kah’s stocks continue to rise following her biggest ever day in the saddle at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Kah, who leads the Victorian and Melbourne Jockey Premierships and claimed a third Group 1 win aboard Mr Quickie in the Toorak Handicap earlier this month, drew wide praise after she become just the third jockey in Cox Plate history to ride four winners on the day.

“I personally think she’s going to be the best jockey we’ve ever seen," Melbourne Racing Club Chairman Mike Symons said on racing.com’s The Wrap.

“That’s a big call, with great respect to Damien Oliver and co., I think we’re looking at someone who is absolutely elite, as long she stays fit, healthy, well and motivated, he said.

On Saturday Kah claimed the $500,000 Inglis Banner for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, rode a dashing race aboard Sovereign Award before a second win for Danny O’Brien aboard top class mare Miami Bound in the $500,000 Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup.

Her class again coming to fore in the final race on the card winning the Crockett Stakes aboard La Mexicana.

"(I'm) so humbled to be given these opportunities,’’ Kah said post-race.

“It would have been great if there were some crowds here, (we) could have really celebrated, but nevertheless I'm so appreciative of everybody," she said.

Kah became the first apprentice to claim the Adelaide Jockeys Premiership in almost 20 years back in 2013. She also claimed four John Letts Medals for excellence in riding and four Adelaide Jockey Premiership before making Victoria home in 2019.

And she heads into the Melbourne Cup carnival in stunning form and with her first ride, aboard a proven star and dual Cup placegetter Prince Of Arran, in the race that stops the nation.

“She’s just got phenomenal hands,’’ Symons added.

“Horses relax for her, she’s got terrific balance and is strong in the finish.

“That’s reflected in her strike-rate,’’ he said.

In what looms as a massive VRC Carnival, Kah is booked for Cetshwayo in the Saturday's $2m Group 1 Victoria Derby, will ride Mr Quickie in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes, She Shao Fly in the Empire Rows and is again booked for leading trainer Danny O'Brien to ride Vilanculos in the Group 1 Victoria Oaks.
