James Jordan's Furphy Goodwood Preview

One of the deepest Goodwood’s I can remember. There should be good tempo on with Xilong drawn in and Jungle Edge drawn out. Every horse should get their chance to do their best and there are nine winning chances by my count! Below is a summation of the main chances.

Santa Ana Lane $8.20

Very good in the TJ Smith behind Nature Strip but run ended late last start at 1400m. He's done it here before and probably going just as well. Was $26 that day but won't be this time around.

Trekking $9.50

Genuine Group 1 horse, he was tough enough last start with the 60kgs. Should map well and get his chance. Did like his recent Flemington jump out beating a couple of his rivals here.

Gytrash $4.30

Absolutely flew in the Irwin and returned a rating that would see him win this. He's had a great preparation and has peaked a few times already. He's definitely good enough, just needs to maintain his form to win.

Sunlight $18

They say 'never knock a champion' and won't surprise me to see her run well but I thought both her runs this preparation were below her best. I was happy to forgive a slightly plain run first-up but last start was a worry. She's a horse I couldn't back with confidence, so didn't let her soak up too much percentage in the market.

The Inevitable $14.50

He's pint-sized but a proper racehorse. I've got him marked longer than the market just with a query on how he goes at the elite level. He's contested 3 x G1s to day with his best finish being 8th.

Order Of Command $11

I think he'll go around over the odds. He's yet to prove he's a topline too but I think his two runs this time in might suggest he's taken the next step but the weights he's carried (60 and 62) have prohibited him from making a mess of the field.

Behemoth $11

Did enough first-up but didn't show that real zip late. He may be wanting slightly further but if he maps in behind a fast-pace he should still be in the finish.

Lyre $11

Another I think will go around a bigger price than I rate her. The Sangster wasn't a high-rating race and wouldn't surprise me if the market reflects that with her price. I thought the best ground that day was hard on fence and Lyre was out much wider. She's an each way chance.
