Exploring a New Career in Racing

The best way to invest in our industry is to invest in our future and Thoroughbred Racing SA are proud to support Savannah Rivett on her journey into our industry.

Ms Rivett has been awarded a scholarship for the Explorer Cadetship Program where TRSA will take care of all her expenses for the first 12 weeks of the program that includes tuition, accommodation and living costs.

“Ms Rivett was the standout applicant, her knowledge and love for thoroughbreds coupled with her strong riding experience made it hard for us to look elsewhere. As an organisation, we are delighted to be supporting her on the journey into our industry.” Said TRSA Special Projects Officer, Vaughn Lynch.

The Explorer Cadetship Program is a 12-month stable and stud horsemanship program run by Thoroughbred Industry Careers. The programs starts with a 12-week training program based at Hawkesbury and then the cadets get firsthand experience in the industry working in a racing stable and stud farm for the remaining nine months.

Ms Rivett has always had a passion for horses and riding, even though she started a bit later than most.

“I have loved horses from a very young age but only started riding when I was eleven. Since then I’ve been having private lessons and have had the great opportunity to lease several horses.”

Ms Rivett will have the opportunity to learn from some of the most talented people in the industry during the Cadetship with leading trainer Adrian Bott, TV presenter Lizzie Jeffs and bloodstock agent Julian Blaxland all part of the team who will be educating the next crop of industry leaders.

“I am excited to learn as much as I can during the program and develop my horse skills. I also cannot wait for all the great opportunities and memories I will make during the program.”

At the conclusion of the program, Ms Rivett is looking to get into track riding with further aspirations to become a trainer or embark on a career in the breeding industry.
