Bill Holland Series up for grabs in the Streaky Bay Cup

The Streaky Bay Cup marks the final event of the Eyre Peninsula racing season and not only is there a nice piece of silverware up for grabs but the Bill Holland Series will come down to the final leg for two locally trained runners.

Ryan Dawson’s Eye the World leads the series on 30 points while Trevor Trenowden’s It’s Humphrey is the only horse who can possibly catch him on 25 points.

It’s Humphrey would need to go back to back in the Streaky Bay Cup to have any chance to claim the Bill Holland Series. With 10 points on offer for the winner, it’s going to have to be a victory for Trenowden’s runner as second place only picks up five points which won’t be enough to knock off Eye The World.

Eye The World has had a great season with a win in the Ceduna Cup and third placings in both the Lock and Penong Cups. It’s Humphrey won December’s Thevenard Cup at Ceduna before being runner up in both the Ceduna and Penong Cups. With a $2k bonus for the owners and $1k bonus for the winning trainer, you can bet your bottom dollar both runners will be out to claim Saturday’s Cup!

There are a few of horse who could well spoil the party for It’s Humphrey including his stablemate Mr Jazz Man. He defeated both It’s Humphrey and Eye The World last start in the Penong Cup and he didn’t just beat them, he won that race by a whopping 7.5 lengths.

Brian Lear’s Copper Coast Raider is another runner who looks like a massive threat in Saturday’s Cup after putting together a huge run to finish second in the Kimba Cup earlier this month. He’s mixed up his form a bit of lately but he absolutely loves the 1800m where he’s won three times and placed twice from six starts. Apprentice Gary Lo has put together a couple nice wins of late and will be brimming with confidence heading into the weekend.

Onward is the other horse who has been racing in great form with four wins from his last five starts. While this assignment might be a bit harder than some of his more recent races, you can’t write off a horse in winning form. His jockey for Saturday, Brendan Sweeney has won on him in both of his last two starts and knows the horse very well.

Regardless of the result on Saturday, it’s going to be an exciting finish to the Bill Holland Series and a magnificent way to wrap up another great Eyre Peninsula racing season!
