MEDIA RELEASE: Experience the best of Kangaroo Island this Racing Carnival

There’s no denying that Kangaroo Island is one of South Australia’s most stunning destinations, and what better time to experience the island’s natural beauty than the SeaLink Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival.

Held on Thursday 14 February and Saturday 16 February, the Carnival caters to every racing experience, whether you’re looking for a relaxed day in the sunshine or a vibrant carnival atmosphere.

More than 100 horses and plenty of punters are expected to travel across from the mainland for what has become one of KI’s biggest and most exciting events.

Those heading to the Cygnet River Racecourse on Thursday can expect a casual and comfortable race day, perfect for spending time outdoors with the family.

Thursday night will turn up the glitz for the Kangaroo Island Racing Club Cocktail Party, held at the Ozone Hotel, Kingscote. The evening will be hosted by race caller Tim Edwards and will feature special guest speaker, SA jockey Eran Boyd. As the ambassador for Craniofacial Australia, Eran will be speaking about the work done for jockeys by this organisation who will also be the charity partner on Cup day.

And the action doesn’t stop between race days – racegoers can head to Dudley Wines for Punters’ Intermission on Friday 15 February for live music and good food.

Saturday’s Cup Day is the main event, with over 3000 people expected at the track for a day filled with great food and wine, fabulous fashion and thrilling racing.

Kangaroo Island Racing Club president Mark Turner said the event is a chance to experience the best that KI has to offer.

“The Racing Carnival brings together locals and visitors to enjoy not just top-quality thoroughbred racing, but KI’s sensational produce, native wildlife and scenery,” Mr Turner said.

“We pride ourselves on offering something for everyone, from families who are after a fun day out to keen racegoers, foodies or fashion lovers.

“The event is full of unique experiences that are embraced by the local community and visitors alike.”

‘Must-do’ experiences include the always popular Kangaroo Island Cup Long Lunch – a stunning four course meal in a trackside marquee on Saturday 15 February, with premium wine, beer and cider. Keep an eye out for some special guests at lunch, as Parndana Wildlife Park will be on site with a koala and more critters.

The lunch will be another opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Craniofacial Australia. Punters can donate to this great cause in the marquee or at all bars at the racecourse.

Cup Day will also feature the KI Fashion at the Races heat, with over $1000 in cash, accommodation for two at the renowned Southern Ocean Lodge and more up for grabs for the winning fashionista.

All that, plus bar activations from Pimm’s, Pirate Life brewery and Dudley Wines to explore, and of course plenty of fast-paced racing action.

Race-day packages including coach and ferry transfers are available for Saturday only.
