Just three kilometres from the meandering banks of the River Murray sits one of the Murraylands’ greatest attractions. The Murray Bridge Racing Club has been holding race meets at its current location since 1914, and this Sunday past, it welcomed guests to The Swanport Hotel Christmas Cup Race Day.
The Fashion at the Races qualifying event was hosted by our FATR Ambassador Lauren Dilena, who spoke of the incredible atmosphere. “The vibe at Murray Bridge was so friendly and easy going,” Lauren said. “I absolutely loved meeting all the wonderful locals, they were so lovely and accommodating throughout the day,” she said. “It was honestly such a fun filled day out with my family and friends.”
The Murray Bridge Racing Club turned into a trend hot spot on the second day of summer, hosting a mix of classic and daring looks. “Women and men pushed the boundaries,” Lauren said. “It’s always so exciting not knowing what you’re walking into... this always gets me inspired!”
Lauren identified monochrome, patterns paired with thoughtful textures and bold hues as key trends of the day. “Reds and pinks tones are still at the front game,” Lauren said. “It’s always such a great eye catcher for the judges if you are entering the FATR competition.”
Racegoers had their very own complimentary glam squad at the Beauty Bar, where Media Makeup artists put their MAKE UP FOREVER, Cloud Nine and evo hair arsenal to work. The title of Best Dressed Womenswear went to Rose Slope, wearing an intricate lace midi dress, intertwining three hues of blue which were matched in her floral-accented millinery.
“I really loved the attention to detail that everyone displayed,” Lauren said. “Not only did the women display this, but I also have to give it up to the men,” she said. “Pocket squares, lapel pins, and mix match accessories were a such a big hit.”
Headwear was not only popular with the female guests, as Lauren spotted quite a few gentlemen rocking the look. “I loved when men choose to wear hats, I think there’s something very dapper and, of course, polished head-to-toe with this look.”
The inspiration behind Lauren’s own ensemble on the day was classic, elegant and refined. “I didn’t want anything too busy or heavy for the regionals,” Lauren said. “I think it’s important when styling for the races to go with what you think is organic to your personal style and remember to always have fun with your individuality.”
The stylist wore a flowing Scanlan Theodore gingham wrap dress, paired with a two-tone white leather and tulle turban by Mimi-Jane Millinery, Zara straw bag, Wittner Shoes and earrings by Mimco. Lauren’s classic red lip and bronze smokey eye was created Nirvana Manly (@nivman) and her soft wave styled by the Chloe from my @mystylesqaudapp.
“It was so great to see so many unique styles which made all the individual contestants and winners stand out,” Lauren said.
